Nokia Lumia 1000 EOS PureView could debut P2i waterproofing

Nokia is working with P2i, meaning the Lumia EOS may be waterproof

P2i’s self-named technology is a nano-coating which works at a molecular level to effectively ‘bounce’ liquids off the surface of phone components, in particular the delicate internals.
The technology is significant because, unlike the current tech found on the likes of the Sony Xperia Z, it doesn’t require the phone’s various ports (headphone jack, microUSB etc.) to be sealed with fiddly grommets and covers.
Not only are such covers frequently annoying to use every time you wish to access a port, but they’re also often held in place by a flimsy plastic band which, if it snaps, compromises the waterproofing of the entire device.
Reports indicate Nokia is planning to debut this P2i technology on products within 2013 and rumours suggest the company’s next flagship, the PureView equipped Lumia 1000 EOS, could be among the first.
The Lumia EOS is said to pack the Nokia 808 PureView 41-megapixel camera with optical image stabilisation and will feature an aluminium unibody to keep the weight down.
With P2i technology in place the potential is there for users to take spectacular underwater shots and footage from their phone.
The 41-megapixel setup is capable of capturing some truly stunning images and video, but was left a little redundant in the 808 PureView as it ran the now defunct Symbian operating system.

Previous reports suggest the Lumia EOS will have an angular design language but will focus on a ‘new look’. Nokia is said to have another aluminium-bodied revamp of the Lumia 920 in the works, dubbed the Catwalk, which may or may not have the same chassis as the Lumia EOS and also sports a ‘Phase 2’ PureView camera.
Select attendees at MWC 2013 caught a glimpse of the Catwalk with Eldar Murtazin pouring praise on the new design for its slim and lightweight build. He also alleged that it could be the most popular phone of the year for its superb design and camera tech, but that it is let down by the Windows Phone 8 operating system.

Just in news, Nokia Lumia 1000

Riding high on the "success" of it's latest Windows Phone-8 powered Lumia range of smartphones, Nokia might be gearing up to launch it's new flagship smartphone being dubbed as Lumia 1000. The Nokia Lumia 1000 has been spotted on China Mobile's database, which is Chinese mobile operator. As of now, nothing else is known about the device except the name but if naming is he criteria to go by, one can safely assume the Lumia 1000 to be the next flagship Windows Phone device from the Finnish smartphone-maker.

Rumors are also doing the rounds that the Lumia 1000 could be the same phone, which was being dubbed as the EOS till now and it's expected that the EOS a.k.a. Lumia 1000 will be the first ever Windows Phone device from Nokia to feature a true PureView camera, sporting a 41 megapixel sensor which we saw on the Nokia PureView 808.

No Cyanogen Mod on the Galaxy s4

XpLoDWilD of Team Hacksung sharing CM’s general thoughts and feelings about the Galaxy S 4:
“Nobody at Team Hacksung (the team behind Galaxy S2, Note, S3, Note2, G Tabs… official CM ports) plans to buy it, neither develop for it. There are two variants which will be a pain to maintain, [and] the bugs we have on the S3 will probably be there on S4, too (camera), and we all know Samsung ability to release sources while staying in line with mainline. Yes Qualcomm releases sources, but Exynos sources we had were far from [working on] actual Galaxy products. I’m pretty sure the same will happen for this one.
That’s a uniform “no” from us.”

Well what can we say, we could see this coming. Guess its almost certain now that there will be no cyanogen mod on the galaxy s4 ! For those who don’t know what CM is , CM is a team of developers which produce their own alternative to the stock Touchwiz(or any other) ROM that the Samsung Galaxy(or any other OEM) comes with. They tweak and mod the original ROM on different devices using the kernel source made public by manufacturers of processors and OEM’s to allow developers to work on the device and submit bug reports so that the manufacturer can alter the code and eliminate the bugs. Because of the ever-growing conflicts of interests between the various Sammy licenses/kernels and well… the folks who want to hack tweak things to make the device a little better, the CM team just felt that attaining the Galaxy S 4 just wasn’t worth the trouble.
So all those geeks addicted to XDA and waiting to get their hands on a smasung galaxy s4 just so you can get down and dirty and start rooting and flashing, HOLD UP ! Lets see how it unfolds in the coming weeks. As for others go get that Samsung Galaxy S4 and let us know when you do so !

What Can You Do With A Developer Unlock Windows Phone?

Hi guys,
I’m here to show you what all you could do with a developer unlocked windows phone phone.
developer unlock windows phone - www.gizmophiliacs.com
Because of the current state of Lumia 800, which has a locked bootloader and we cannot root it, we are stuck with nothing else other than DEVELOPER UNLOCK!
So now before you start scratching your heads and asking what is developer unlock, let me tell you that this type of unlock can be done to ANY Windows phone, and you can deploy a number of XAPs (Apps and games) to your device including special DEVELOPER Patched GAMES (Xbox live) and other OEM’s apps to your device, also you can deploy homebrews which are cooked to tweak the system a bit for better usage.
If you have NO developer unlock on your device head here : DEVELOPER UNLOCK WINDOWS PHONE FOR FREE
Now once you got this done…What are the apps and stuff you could use to deploy?
Here is what i use…

THEMES (TILES) :

This application updated thanks to Jaxbot from windowsphonehacker.
The application is in 2 parts, the theme has to be made from an executable file on a computer, once your theme is made save it as XAP and deploy it to your device. Only 1 theme can be installed at a time by this method.

windows phone havk - www.gizmophiliacs.com
So Jaxbot made a XAP that has to be deployed to the device and has its own gallery of themes which can be downloaded within that application itself giving you more choices.
Themesv2 (use on PC) :

WPH Theme (Deploy to phone and download themes) :
More themes to deploy :

SCREEN CAPTURE :

Take screenshots in any part of the OS, including HD games, Apps, Start Screen, Menu , Lockscreen etc.
You need to start the application , click on “Start Screen Task” , click on Windows Button, now use the camera key to take a screen shot.
There is a time limit after which the app gets disabled. 1 minimum time and 5 for maximum.
Now just go back to the app and you should see your screen shots there, tap to save them, they ill be saved in the “saved pictures” album.

Screen capture download :

Orientation Lock :

There is also Orientation lock where u can disable auto rotate and everything stays in portrait mode, it has a feature where you can pin the app to the tiles and 1 tap Enable and disable.
Orientation lock:

Here is one that you all would love :

MPAtool :

This tool allows you to manually download album art for an artist.
Also there is a feature to add artist art manually from your own pictures hub!

MPAtool :

KEEP ALIVE :

This application allows the WIFI to run in the backgroud even when the screen is locked, since many people say this is needed and its very useful to have your WIFI ON when you need it if u have low cellular network coverage. This can be disabled by restarting phone or disable WIFI in settings.

I will update this post with more stuff that you can add to your developer unlocked device!
enjoy! Wink

GoogleNow For Desktop Soon ?

Google Now integration may soon become available in Google’s Windows browser and Chrome OS platform, after engineers added a new reference to the feature in the latest Chromium release. Discovered by Chromium enthusiast François Beaufort, a new flag has been added to the Chromium backend, which allows users to enable the option if they know the relevant Google Now server. However, as the feature is not yet public, Google Now cards (or notifications) are not yet displayed.
googlenow for desktop www.gizmophiliacs.com
image courtsey : THE VERGE
Google Now on Android is one of the more genuinely exciting developments for that mobile OS in recent memory, and new evidence today signals it’s on its way to the desktop, too.For those on older android versions ( 4.0 and less ), GoogleNow is a contextual digital assistant that generates useful content in the form of ‘cards’ on your phone based on your search habits, location, email activity and more. It can provide local weather, for instance, as well as your travel time home when it’s time to end your day, as well as restaurant and sight-seeing locations when you’re on vacation in a strange place.

The Change

Google is trying new and improved ways to enhance is search engine, however being a tech giant, innovation and change has to be on the fore front. GoogleNow for desktop could be that very change. Having already been a success on the smartphone, GoogleNow seems set to reign havoc on Desktop too. It would be a radical change and a welcome additional feature in the Google arsenal.
Think of it as the first real attempt Google has made to come up with a true successor to its primary product, and you can see exactly why the company would want to get it on the desktop. Bringing it to Chrome OS is likewise a smart move, since it can inject some fresh energy into that fledgling desktop environment.
So far, Google has only shown this as a feature in Chrome for Windows and Chrome OS, but a Mac version is also likely to follow. The appearance of this clue in Chromium offers no insight into when it’ll make it to the desktop in a usable, stable form, but the ball is now clearly rolling.

[Guest Post] Securing WordPress

Securing anything in the digital world is an annoying task. Websites being defaced and servers being rooted (root is the most privileged account in an OS based on a Linux kernel) no one can promise anything being completely secure. Though we can’t completely secure anything, we sure can minimize the possibility of an intruder breaking in. And here we are with an agenda of making your WordPress blogs and websites more secure.

Securing WordPress ? Why?

WordPress is a free and open source blogging tool and a content management system (CMS) based on PHP and MySQL. It’s the most popular blogging tool over the internet and is preferred by many users for content management of their websites as well. This clearly attracts many black hat and grey hat hackers. Now that we know why we need to secure our WordPress blogs let’s move to how do we secure it.

How do I go about it?

Strong Passwords

We are all well aware that strong passwords(.i.e combination of special characters and alphanumeric characters) help us keeping intruders away. And we also how much we actually use them. In this article we won’t explain what kinda strong passwords to use, rather why to use them. Hackers usually try brute forcing their way into systems and websites.  Brute forcing is a password cracking method that tries each keyboard combination possible against the username and password. To avoid these attacks you can try limiting the number of login attempts. After doing this you might say that you are secure enough but you are not. This is because it’s not just you who can get hacked, it can be the websites servers as well. In which case a strong password comes in the play.Usernames and Passwords are stored in form of hashes on servers, using a one way encryption.Hence hackers need to brute force these hashes to acquire the actually credentials. Practically using a brute force attack requires a lot of processing and time as well. So hackers download or make their own password lists that are used. Now the only way you can dodge these attacks is by having a very strong password

The screenshot above is the sign-up page for WordPress. One of the most common mistakes which normal users do is keeping the same username as the name of their blog or their email or having something common as admin, which is a bad practice. Always choose a username which is unknown to others. Also generating a strong password is a good habit provided you remember the password and don’t write it down somewhere.

File Permissions

A lot of hackers lurk around the files with a motive of gaining sensitive information. Also to find directories that might not be write protected, in which case a malicious script might be uploaded to your blog or website. Hence important directories must be writeable only by the user such as the root directory, /wp-includes/, /wp-content/ and /wp-includes/ .

Update ! Update ! Update !

This is one of the most important aspects in terms of digital security. Most users are impatient and find updating tedious. However most updates are security patches that ensure the integrity of your applications and systems. From version 2.7+ automatic update feature has been added, which decreases loads of efforts for users. For more info on Automatic updates you can check the link below:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Updating_WordPress#Automatic_Update
It’s not just about WordPress, you also need to update your themes and Plugins.Older versions of plugins and themes are major a reason of websites being compromised. So make it a habit to update all of them. It would be even better if you delete the plugins you don’t use.

Regular Backup

A regular Backup is a handy way to ensure availability of your blogs and websites. Regular Backup is not only important when your websites or blogs gets compromised but also helps you when an update or stupid little mistake has messed up everything. The most important aspect of a back up is its regularity.Having a back up that was taken ages ago is as good as not having it. Remember, by back up we mean back up each and everything including your database.

Securing your database

A database holds sensitive data that should not be accessed by others. But that doesn’t stop intruders from doing so. Some good practises are having uncommon names for tables. Also make sure you disable all the unneeded features like accepting remote TCP connections. Using uncommon usernames and passwords add one more layer of protection.

Security Plugins

A lot of plugins provide security to your WordPress powered blogs and websites. Some to save you from popular attacks, some scan for security bugs, some monitor blog security and some that act as a firewall. We have listed them below with a little description to help you out.
1. Better WP Security (Link: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/better-wp-security/)
Better WP Security is monitoring plugin which is easy and effective. A one click way to secure WordPress
2. BulletProof Security(Link: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bulletproof-security)
BulletProof Security protects your sites and blogs from the most popular attacks such SQL injection, code injection,XSS and several others. It also secures your database from bugs.
3. Total Security(Link: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/total-security)
Total Security is a highly effective security plugin. It provides you the detailed reporting on discovered vulnerabilities if they are found and tells you exactly on how to fix them.
4. WP Security Scan(Link: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-security-scan)
WP Security Scan as the name suggests scans and tell you the vulnerabilities in your blogs and websites. It’s effective and easy to use.
5. WordPress Firewall (Link: http://www.seoegghead.com/software/wordpress-firewall.seo)
WordPress Firewall uses some WordPress-tuned pre-configured rules along with a white list to screen out attacks.

Secure Yourself

People often neglect security for better usability and functionality. They prefer systems to be without software firewalls and antivirus and anti-malware. These things put the user to a great risk. Not having an Updated Anti-Virus is as good as telling hackers all your usernames and passwords. If you do not implement basic security need for your system then securing your blogs and websites may serve no purpose. Most users are affected due to use of older versions of applications or rather the new ones which are downloaded illegally. The cracks for this kind of  software are clearly detected as Trojans and Viruses but users use them anyway. These might not only compromise your WordPress powered blogs and websites but also your bank accounts and email accounts. Using an antivirus, anti- malware and a firewall is a must in the digital world.

Update for Internet Explorer 10 that enables Flash content in both Windows 8 and Windows RT

Windows 8 users previously had to switch to the desktop mode to view Flash-enabled site. Now, however, Microsoft says only about 4 percent of the “thousands of domains tested” are still incompatible, so the team has decided that switching the policy around was the right thing to do.
Tomorrow, Microsoft will release an update for Internet Explorer 10 that enables Flash content in both Windows 8 and Windows RT. As many of you are likely aware, the “full web” experience has been limited to the desktop browser on Windows 8 up until this point, which was an intentional move by Microsoft in order to improve performance, battery life and the touch experience. With the update, Internet Explorer 10 users for Windows 8 / RT will be able to access Flash content on all but a few sites that Microsoft has selectively blacklisted due to their negative impact on the user experience.
Before the launch of Windows 8 and RT, Microsoft worked with Adobe to develop a version of Flash that is optimized for touch – obviously one of the central features of Windows 8.
Starting tomorrow, Microsoft’s modern.IE site, which it launched last month to help developers ensure their sites work on Internet Explorer 10, will also feature a tool that allows developers to check whether their sites are on the new Flash block list.

1.42 Calories With Every Mouse Click

Recent studies have found that you burn around 1.42 Calories with every mouse click ( yes, we seriously don’t know how people have so much time as to count the calories burnt by clicking your mouse ).

Whenever we type, click or move the mouse, an action is required which means that at some level, calories are being burnt. However, no matter how often you click that mouse it seems insignificant on te overall effect it will have on your body. It is obvious that no one has lost massive amounts of weight simply by sitting in front of the computer and clicking the mouse, but have you ever wondered how many calories a mouse click actually burns? In a recent study by the name of “Convert Anything to Calories”, published by the PHP Science World, it has been found that the number of calories an average person burns per mouse click is 1.42. This is calculated by measuring the “the total volume of the muscles used to bend the index finger.”
Before you start clicking that mouse button at the speed of knots  let’s make one thing clear, do not expect to turn from fat to fit just by clicking. It should be noted that the measurement used is calories, instead of kilocalories (also known as kcal) which is typically used when talking about the nutritional benefits or food or activities. What this means is that 1,000 calories equates to 1 kcal, meaning that you’d probably wear out your mouse long before you start to see any effects. In any case we expect that this should be somewhat entertaining trivia for those who want to share it with friends.
